Bell-bottoms: 1960-present
The bell-bottom trend began around the 1960’s, but continued to gain popularity in the 1970’s, and again in the 2000’s. This trend was first a functional design worn by sailors/those who worked on boats in the U.S. before it was worn by the larger society. Sonny & Cher, an American duo of entertainers, helped popularize the pants by wearing them on their television show, as well as French designer Coco Chanel right after. Since, bell-bottoms have always been worn in fashion as both a casual piece, and formal.

Dr. Martens boot: 1940-present
For several decades, shoe brand “Dr. Martens,” has been very popular among a wide range of ages. Dr. Martens boots were first developed by doctor Klaus Maertens in 1940, and were made to be a simple work-boot before becoming much more popular in the British style scene. Dr. Martens boots are best-known to be timeless, considering that it has been part of a large range of subcultures for about 6 decades. Dr. Martens are currently in trend in 2019, and very popular in fashion culture.

Biker Shorts: 1990-present
The latest trend in 2019 has been biker shorts. It all started September of 2018 at the Spring/Summer Off-White show, dedicated to 1990’s fashion icon, Princess Diana. Biker shorts were first worn for cycling/working-out, before Diana wore them more as a comfort fashion. As a current employee in retail, I see biker shorts all the time. At my Urban Outfitters store, we carry just about every color of biker shorts in different prints and fabrics. Biker shorts are mostly worn in warmer parts of the country, but I’m sure it will be a very popular trend this spring and summer.
